Organization Description

Community Health Trust of Pajaro Valley was founded in 1998 and serves a tri-county area. Community Health Trust is recognized for its leadership as a convener in the South Santa Cruz County area. CHT is motivated to foster an equitable Pajaro Valley with health, wellness, and a full quality of life for all through access to resources, activities, and choices that help prevent illness and improve quality of life. 

Program Information

General Description of what students will be doing at this Site: The Marketing & Communications Intern will provide support for messaging, branding, and communications across all channels, including but not limited to the website, print, and social media. They will assist the Marketing & Communications Team in the strategic design, implementation, and management of communication strategies that promote organizational programs, community engagement, and public health impact.

Key Responsibilities:

- Program Content Support: Under the guidance of the Marketing & Communications Director and in collaboration with the MK/CM team, support the creation and design of educational materials (e.g., handouts, recipes, and outreach resources) aligned with organizational brand guidelines.

- Content Updates & Organization: Assist in updating and maintaining program materials across print and digital platforms, including uploading and formatting content on the website and helping organize a library of educational resources, photos, and templates.

- Creative & Digital Support: Provide support for basic graphic design, social media content, and light video/photo editing to help share program activities and resources.

- Outreach & Event Support: Assist with preparation for community outreach and events, including organizing materials and providing occasional day-of support to help promote programs and services.

- Data & Community Feedback Support: Assist in tracking marketing and program analytics, collecting community or patient surveys, and engaging with program participants to understand needs and experiences.

- Storytelling & Impact Documentation: Help collect and share community impact stories and testimonials that highlight program successes and outcomes.

- Team & Project Support: Work collaboratively with the MK/CM, Programs, and Development teams to support ongoing projects and help ensure materials are completed and accessible in a timely manner.

- Perform other related duties as assigned in support of the organization’s mission.

Desired Intern Characteristics:

- Interest in marketing, communications, public health, or community-based work

- Strong attention to detail and organization skills

- Basic design skills (e.g., Canva, Adobe, or similar tools)

- Ability to manage multiple small tasks and follow through on projects

- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team

- Strong communication skills and willingness to learn

- Cultural awareness and empathy, with an interest in serving diverse communities

- Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred

Special Considerations:

- This role may include occasional local travel for outreach events

- Intern should be comfortable working in community settings and engaging with diverse populations

- Flexible schedule may be needed for occasional community events

Trainings/ staff meetings offered or required:
The intern will be introduced to all collaborative teams and staff during their initial onboarding week. Ongoing support and training will continue throughout the internship. This includes participation in weekly or biweekly departmental check-ins, as well as regular check-ins with other departments as relevant to their assignments.

While the intern is expected to have basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and design platforms such as Canva and/or Adobe, they will receive guidance on the organization’s brand guidelines and standards. Continuous check-ins and process reviews will ensure that all work aligns with the organization’s branding.

Additionally, interns are encouraged to attend monthly all-staff meetings, when available, to stay informed and engaged with broader organizational activities.
