US Forest Service - Southern California Consortium
The California Consortium (CC) is an environmental education, minority outreach and recruitment program. The CC serves as a bridge between the USDA Forest Service, underserved areas, and community partners. Our mission is to diversify the Forest Service workforce by encouraging careers in natural resources, higher education, and employment through mentoring, leadership, and community outreach efforts. We are committed to providing an all inclusive nurturing, respectful, and positive work environment. • Establish and strengthen relationships in Hispanic, African American, and other diverse communities • Raise awareness of importance of natural resources and opportunities available on public lands in underserved communities • Encourage enrollment in higher education and natural resource programs • Facilitate student job placement opportunities
**Service Learning Students are not allowed to drive any vehicles as part of their Service Learning project.
Main health and safety considerations revolve around mountaineering and driving. A lot of our activities occur in the great outdoors. Hazards such as bee stings or sprained ankles are on top of mind but one must also consider falls or other related injuries. Driving on the freeway and mountain areas also comes with hazards that can be mitigated.
