CHIME Institute

Organization Description

At CHIME, inclusive education means that children who reflect the demographics of the surrounding region - including children who are developing typically and children with disabilities, learn side by side. The CHIME Preschool model allows for the individual needs of each child to be addressed in a manner that enhances each child’s strengths while also addressing learning needs. In partnership with LAUSD, the program offers multidisciplinary, developmentally appropriate special education services embedded within a high-quality early childhood education (ECE).

Program Information

Specialized instruction and related services embedded within natural routines: A great deal of collaboration, including interdisciplinary team planning and provision of services within the classroom environment allows instruction to occur in typically occurring activities, routines and transitions. Teaching opportunities are either child initiated or based on the child's interest and allows us to address a wide range of developmental needs while addressing IEP objectives and supporting children’s participation in a number of activities. Universal Design for Learning (UDL): By utilizing a UDL framework with proactive and systematic planning we can address the diverse group of children we serve, creating expanded opportunities for accessing and processing of information for all children – those with and without disabilities. We utilize evidence-based practice to support young children’s social emotional competence in young children. We believe the most effective strategies for addressing challenging behaviors are focused on prevention of challenging behaviors and promotion of appropriate social behaviors.
