he goal of Child Welfare Services is to keep children safe and to preserve families. To have compassion for one another, to learn from others and give back without hesitation or judgement. To offer professional skills and knowledge to all the residents of Trinity County in a manner that respects each individual as a unique person in a unique situation. To give families the tools and connections with community services they need to help them to be successful at parenting and rasing their children in a safe and healthy environment. To let families know we are here to support and assist them in making the changes necessary to keep their family together. To see families living in our county as a strength to our community. To know that the children of Trinity County deserve to experience a safe, healthy and nurturing environments and their parents deserve our respect and understanding. Moreover, the staff of CWS will know that the decision we make affect the lives of children and their families and it is our duty to do the best we can on their behalf. We choose to be caring and considerate in our treatment of all persons, no matter the circumstances and always present a professional attitude in dealing with families and the community.

Program Information

Students will have the opportunity to practice rural, relational social work in a variety of child welfare programs, from differential response and prevention to investigations, family reunification, family maintenance, permanency, and transitional age youth. Students will be able to learn creative problem solving, family focused practice, and community based interventions in one of the few frontier (less than five people per square mile) counties in California.

Health & Safety

Students will be interacting with a variety of children in families in a variety of settings, from home visits to court to schools. Field work will be required, as will driving a county vehicle. Field work may be in remote or isolated areas of the community with questionable cell phone service. Students will receive field safety training and any risks of field work will be carefully considered as tasks are assigned.

Hours of operation 

Normal business hours are 8am-5pm M; however, work and learning opportunities often extend beyond those hours, as crises do not adhere to normal business times. There are opportunities to flex scheduling and work on evenings or weekends depending on the needs of the student and children and families that we serve.
