Fairmont Elementary School

Organization Description

The West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD) was established in 1965. It covers the cities of El Cerrito, San Pablo, Pinole, and Hercules and the unincorporated areas of Bayview-Montalvin Manor, East Richmond Heights, El Sobrante, Kensington, North Richmond, and Tara Hills.

Program Information

Established in 1905 or even earlier by some accounts, Fairmont is the oldest school in El Cerrito. The school had been rebuilt twice on its present site. Fairmont's current building was built in 1957. It may be over 50 years old, but the structural evaluation of the school carried out by WCCUSD a few years ago showed no major structural concerns. However, the school community is working on many other issues related to the inadequacy of the facility, which are discussed in detail under Our School Facility.
