Yolo County Archives and Yolo County Historical Collection/Gibson House

Organization Description

The Gibson House is a historical Yolo County property, including mansion, outbuildings, and grounds, that has been owned by Yolo County since 1975. After a process that included a review of operations, a public meeting, and several presentations to the County Board of Supervisors, the supervisors voted on June 26, 2018 to implement a new operational model for the Gibson House property and the historical collection.

Program Information

The Yolo County Historical Collection is comprised of 11,000 objects which date from the 1830s to the 1930s. The collection includes textiles, agricultural equipment, paintings, archival materials, ephemera, photographs, archaeological items, tools, ceramics, household items, furniture, and personal items. This collection illustrates what life was like for early Yolo County residents. The Yolo County Archives, founded in 1985, is the official repository for Yolo County records. The collection contains records dating from the 1850s to the present from various Yolo County agencies/departments as well as family collections from community members and local businesses. The materials include maps, blueprints, photographs, bound volumes, manuscripts, newspapers, yearbooks, and secondary sources in the form of published books and articles.
