Marin County Children and Family Services

Organization Description

We are a child welfare organization who's main role in the community is to assess for the risk and safety of children from birth to 18. We investigate allegations of abuse and neglect and work with families to put services in place in order to assist them in remaining intact or to reunify.

Program Information

Students will work with a Field Instructor and have opportunities to learn the roles and responsibilities of a Child Welfare Worker. Students will have opportunities to shadow staff during home visits and sit in during other meetings, when appropriate. They will have opportunities to engage with parents and their children, participate in case planning, child and family team meetings, case consultation, and court dates. They will have opportunities to work with our CWS/CMS database to become familiar with it. After having gained some experience, they will also be assigned a case and the Field Instructor will participate in reverse shadowing. This is where the intern will take the lead during a home visit and the Field Instructor provides backup.
