InternshipAt — San Diego Habitat Conservancy
Student interns work with SDHC to fulfill academic requirements by assisting staff in the field and behind the scenes. Interns accompany staff on preserve monitoring patrols, special surveys, and maintenance events, while helping with administrative tasks such as collecting and tracking data, reporting on activities, and researching and designing projects. SDHC regularly works with students from University of California San Diego, San Diego State University, High Tech High School, and more!
Interns that join us in the field learn how to identify native plant species and vegetation communities, local birds, mammals, reptiles, and invertebrates, invasive plant species and treatment methods, and other conservation practices to gain experience in environmental conservation and give back to your community. This opportunity is a great way to determine if you would like working in the field of environmental sciences!
Students will assist the Preserve Manager with site specific duties and responsibilities that will be discussed prior to commencing the activity. Trainings may include plant and animal species identification, survey protocols, hand weeding techniques, equipment and tool training as needed, best management practices, etc.
Various environmental threats include potential contact with poison oak, ticks, rattlesnakes, hazardous waste, encounters with individuals currently experiencing homelessness, etc. SDHC encourages a non-confrontational approach, and we will avoid any and all safety threats when detected.
We ask that applicants provide a resume, fill out a questionnaire form, and attend a remote interview.
