Opportunity Summary

Students who volunteer with Meals on Wheels have the opportunity to deliver meals to seniors, disabled veterans, and pets. This means they are providing safety and wellness checks to each client they deliver meals to. They will have the ability to conduct assessments on clients to see if they qualify for certain programs we are partnered with. They have the opportunity to shadow staff. We have a care navigator who works with clients on any additional resources they may need. They do client visits where they asses the home environment of the client where a student has the ability to shadow the care navigator. We go to different events throughout the year, and they can help table events with us. We host multiple fundraising events that they are able to help promote, get sponsors and help at the fundraisers.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes

Students will learn how many seniors are a forgotten population. When a student partners with us, they will learn about additional resources that support seniors and disabled veterans. They will be able to have direct contact with our clients and learn firsthand from our clients and staff. They will learn about how a nonprofit operates.

Opportunity Training

Students will be given training on all different opportunities we have available. Such as, if it is going out on a route they will be trained on how to use or mobile app and how to make deliveries. Students will be supported throughout the entire time with Meals on Wheels. If they need more time and training, we will be able to provide that to them. Trainings will vary on the type of task they are completing.
