Meals on Wheels San Diego County
The impact that Meals on Wheels has on the seniors we serve goes far beyond the wholesome meals provided. Daily friendly contact also provides important socialization for those who may be isolated with little or no connection to the outside world. Lives are often saved in the course of delivering meals when a person does not respond to a knock on the door, has fallen or may have become ill. For over 56 years, Meals on Wheels San Diego County has contributed to the overall well-being of seniors by providing regular nutrition and daily contact with a caring volunteer.
The vulnerable population students will be working with for Meals on Wheels is the elderly and disabled veterans. Student may have to go out and deliver meals on a route where they may be unsupervised. If a student does not feel safe when delivering meals or going inside a home, they never have to do something they do not feel comfortable with. When they are delivering meals through our mobile app, they always have the option to call our office for additional support. If they do not want to go out and deliver meals alone, we can always arrange for them to go with another volunteer or staff. It is important to us that everyone feels supported.
