North County Health Project Inc dba TrueCare

Organization Description

TrueCare will be the premier health care provider for diverse communities in San Diego County and the Inland Empire, characterized by an exceptional patient experience, comprehensive and integrated services, and innovative approaches to clinical care, patient service and business operations.

Program Information

The Service Learning student will lead and assist in outreach activities and community events that increase community awareness of the services and programs provided by TrueCare. The Golden Years Intern will gain hands on experience by assisting and implementing psycho-educational classes for participants of the Golden Years Program. The intern will help organize events and classes for Hispanic Adults and learn skills to increase community knowledge on mental health and wellness. The Patient Retention & Engagement Intern will gain hands on experience by assisting as a receptionist at the resource center and support the PRE Team (Patient Retention & Engagement).

Through training, mentorship, and routine interactions, Service Learning students learn new skills, expand their networks, and achieve personal and professional growth.

  • Provide general office administration (e.g. filing, data entry, processing forms, intra-office communication, meeting preparation, returning phone calls)
  • Serve in a customer service/concierge role
  • Sort donated goods (such as, food, clothing, electronics, household items)
  • Support or assist with an event, program, or community project

Students will be provided orientation that goes over HIPAA, TrueCare Policies, and intern best practices. Supervisors will also provide training as appropriate.

Students will have access to the volunteer and Internship coordinator at all times for any questions or concerns. Students will also work closely with their supervisors and supervisors will be provided reminders on best practices for hosting an intern.

Health & Safety

“Please note: This site deals with blood and/or other bodily fluids and may have a higher risk of injury or increased exposure to illness due to needles, blood borne pathogens (HEP A/B/C), physical injury, etc. Ensure that you meet with your site supervisor to understand the increased risk in completing your internship at this site, as well as the appropriate measures you can take to mitigate and/or respond to these risks. Your orientation at the site should also include a general site safety orientation.”

Since we are a healthcare facility, we work with a diverse and often times, vulnerable patient population. Depending on the internship, students paired up with our community engagement team will sometimes have to attend community events as part of their internship.

Service Learning students typically work with manager/director level supervisors who oversee teams of more than 8 people.
