Program Information Communication Content Creator Internships
The Department of Communication Studies is hiring a team of interns to create content to support the department’s marketing, communications, and community engagement on various mediated platforms. Interns will gain hands-on experience creating content, managing channels, measuring performance, and executing campaigns under the guidance of the Communication Content Creator Program Manager. Interns will have the opportunity to gain skills in video recording and editing in active learning laboratories and spaces around campus. Interested students coordinate with Dr. Veronica Dawson, the course instructor, to develop a set of individualized learning objectives for their experience. Interns then work with the department in a hands-on role supervised by the Communication Content Creator Program Manager, Dr. Christopher J. Claüs. Internships range from 1-4 units (48 hours per unit).
Prerequisites: Junior Standing and a portfolio or sample of work. Examples of this internship include: Communication Content Coordinator
Responsibilities: Coordinate the intern team and manage the editorial/content calendar. Plan campaigns and coordinate posting across platforms. Ensure brand voice, accessibility, and messaging consistency. Liaise between department staff, faculty, and the program manager to approve content. Monitor performance and report monthly summaries with recommendations.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications: • Strong organizational and communication skills. • Familiarity with social platforms and scheduling tools. • Basic analytics understanding (e.g., Instagram Insights). Communication Content Creator Responsibilities: Write captions and copy. Research and propose post topics aligned with departmental goals. Edit and proofread content for tone, clarity, and accessibility. Collaborate with designers and video editors to craft integrated posts. Preferred Skills &
Qualifications: • Excellent writing/editing skills. • Portfolio or samples that demonstrate an understanding of storytelling and social media best practices. Graphic Design Responsibilities: Produce social graphics, infographics, templates, banners, and other assets. Maintain and update brand templates in Adobe Creative Cloud. Export/format images for platform-specific requirements.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications: • Proficiency in Adobe Express/Photoshop/Illustrator. • Portfolio or samples of strong visual design sense. Video Creator Responsibilities: Plan, film, and edit short-form videos and simple long-form content. Follow trends, develop unique hooks optimized for engagement and watch time. Manage video caption and platform uploads. Preferred Skills & Qualifications: • Experience shooting video on smartphone and/or DSLR camera – framing, exposure, basic lighting, and audio capture. • Portfolio or sample of short/long-form video work showcasing storytelling and demonstration of editing and framing abilities. • Basic audio editing and use of external mics; ability to produce clear, useable sound.
