Oral History Class (HIST 4006)

Organization Description

California State University, Stanislaus serves a diverse student body of more than 9,000 at two locations in the Central Valley — a beautiful 228-acre campus in Turlock and the Stockton Center, located in the city’s historic Magnolia District. Widely recognized for its dedicated faculty and high-quality academic programs, the University offers 43 majors, 41 minors and more than 100 areas of concentration, along with 15 master's degree programs, seven credential programs and a doctorate in educational leadership.

Program Information

Learn to use and manage various tools for project management, scheduling, and tracking, including AdobeSign, 25Live, MS Office, and shared cloud space.

Learn to coordinate the logistics of student interviews by lining up interviewees/narrators with students.

Training Deliverables:
1) Oversee the registration process that is currently on Microsoft Forms and coordinate summary charts of participants and their available times and interview modality preferences.
2) Engage in outreach to individuals referred to us, using template emails and agreement forms I've created.

Advanced deliverables:
1) Assist students in scheduling rooms for in-person interviews, with equipment needs, and possibly attend recordings as needed.
2) Assist in promoting the products of the class by working with campus IT to integrate these interviews into the history department website.

This will be a new iteration of the oral history collection (https://digitalarchives.csustan.edu/repositories/2/resources/50) that emeritus history professor Nancy Taniguchi and former library archivist Bob Santos had been working on up until about 2010.

Health & Safety

Not all of the students will be doing oral histories with VIP; some will perform on-campus interviews, as the "interviewees/"narrators" will likely come to the university to be interviewed or the interview will happen over Zoom.
