Opportunity Summary 

We are seeking a highly motivated and analytical Data Science, Human Services, Public Health and/or Social Work Intern to join our dynamic team. As our Intern, you will have the opportunity to work on real-world projects that utilize community data to drive social impact and inform decision-making. Under the guidance of experienced community leaders and data scientists, you will gain hands-on experience in data analysis, public health, population health management, government affairs, artificial intelligence and data visualization techniques or tools.

- Research, collect, aggregate data from vetted sources to support various projects and initiatives.
- Conduct data cleaning and analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights that inform decision-making and drive social impact.
- Assist in developing marketing strategies and campaigns to promote our data-driven solutions and engage with stakeholders, partners, and community members.
- Support community outreach efforts by organizing events, workshops, and initiatives to raise awareness about our mission and foster collaboration with local organizations and community leaders.
- Develop compelling content for communication materials, including social media posts, articles, and newsletters, to effectively communicate our findings, initiatives, and impact to diverse audiences.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and create reports, presentations, and data visualizations that effectively communicate key insights, findings, and recommendations to stakeholders, funders, and partners.
- Assist in tracking and analyzing the impact of our initiatives and programs, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts based on feedback and evaluation results.
- Stay up-to-date on emerging trends, best practices, and innovative approaches in data science, community engagement, and social impact to inform our work and drive innovation.

Training:

- General intern orientation during Week 1 will provide an overview of Advance OC and the projects we will be focusing on at the time of internship
- Weekly scheduled team meetings in which the intern would be able to participate, learn new skills and share project updates
- Availability for one-on-one mentor meetings to review assigned tasks and provide resources for support
- Overview of assigned tasks through utilizing past project samples and other informational sources

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to:
- Develop strong analytical and problem-solving skills, especially in regards to public health and social data.
- Gain experience with data analysis and visualization tools such as Excel, Tableau, Alchemer, etc.
- Enhance communication and collaboration skills, through effectively communicating complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
