Opportunity Summary 

The Special Events & Community Engagement internship offers students an opportunity to help coordinate, support, and lead outreach efforts, community education, and volunteer engagement. Interns will contribute to mission-driven public events, juvenile hall programming, advocacy campaigns, and workshops that support vulnerable populations.

Tasks:

Interns will:

Assist with the planning and setup of community engagement events

Support coordination of volunteers, speakers, and venue needs

Attend events at juvenile facilities or reentry workshops as support staff

Promote events and campaigns via social media or in-person outreach

Maintain event data, participant logs, and post-event reflections

Collaborate with teams to evaluate event impact and gather feedback

Training:

Interns will receive:

Orientation covering event policies, outreach strategies, and community guidelines

Weekly one-on-one mentorship with a staff supervisor

Training in volunteer management, logistics planning, and advocacy messaging

Shadowing and support opportunities at onsite events and juvenile hall programs

Templates, planning checklists, and outreach playbooks

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the internship, students will be able to:

Assist in planning and executing public events and outreach campaigns

Manage logistics, promotion, and volunteer coordination for community programming

Support educational presentations and advocacy workshops

Build relationships with community members, stakeholders, and partner agencies

Apply effective communication and project coordination strategies in real-world settings
