This internship offers students an opportunity to develop group facilitation and program delivery skills while supporting trauma-informed, reentry-focused, and recovery-based programming. Interns will assist in designing, co-leading, and evaluating group sessions at juvenile facilities, community sites, or veteran spaces. This is ideal for students passionate about healing, empowerment, and transformational group work.
Tasks:
Interns will:
Co-facilitate group sessions in areas such as recovery, life skills, parenting, or reentry
Assist with preparation, setup, and materials for in-person or virtual workshops
Monitor group participation and collect feedback or evaluations
Support at-risk youth, veterans, or returning citizens in group settings
Attend outreach events and promote program offerings
Maintain logs of attendance, incidents, and group progress
Training:
Interns will receive:
Orientation on facilitation guidelines, group safety, and trauma-informed principles
Weekly mentorship and debrief with a group facilitator or clinical mentor
Observational learning through shadowing experienced facilitators
Workshops on youth engagement, veteran support, reentry programming, and resilience
Access to group curriculum outlines, facilitation manuals, and evaluation tools
Learning Outcome:
By the end of the academic internship, students will be able to:
Facilitate or co-facilitate group sessions in trauma-informed, recovery, or life skills settings
Apply group management strategies to maintain safe and structured environments
Use culturally sensitive and inclusive facilitation techniques
Reflect on group dynamics, conflict resolution, and engagement strategies
