Opportunity Summary 

As a Behavior Technician at The Behavior Lab, you will play a key role in delivering play-based ABA therapy designed to help children build meaningful skills in fun, engaging, and natural ways. Under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), you will support children in reaching their communication, social, academic, and daily living goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement individualized ABA treatment plans developed by the supervising BCBA.

  • Use play-based and naturalistic teaching strategies to promote learning and engagement.

  • Support skill development in areas such as communication, social interaction, self-help, and emotional regulation.

  • Collect accurate and timely data on client progress using digital platforms (e.g., CentralReach, Rethink, or Passage Health).

  • Follow behavior intervention plans (BIPs) to reduce challenging behaviors and teach functional replacement skills.

  • Provide positive reinforcement to encourage skill acquisition and independence.

  • Collaborate with team members, caregivers, and school staff to promote consistency across settings.

  • Maintain professionalism and uphold client dignity in every session.

  • Participate in ongoing training and supervision to build clinical skills and ensure treatment fidelity.

Tasks:

Implementation of Individualized Treatment Plans

Deliver play-based ABA interventions tailored to each child’s needs.

Support skill development in communication, social interaction, emotional regulation, and daily living tasks.

Utilize prompting, reinforcement, and error correction strategies with fidelity.

Behavior Intervention Support

Follow Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) to safely and effectively reduce maladaptive behaviors.

Teach and reinforce functional replacement skills (e.g., communication, coping strategies).

Apply proactive antecedent strategies and crisis-prevention techniques.

Data Collection and Analysis

Record behavioral and skill-acquisition data accurately and in real time using digital platforms (e.g., CentralReach, Rethink, Passage Health).

Monitor trends in data to inform treatment decisions.

Participate in data review meetings with supervisors to interpret outcomes and adjust interventions.

Professional Communication and Collaboration

Engage in constructive feedback sessions with BCBAs to refine clinical skills.

Collaborate with caregivers and school staff to ensure consistency across home, school, and clinic settings.

Model professional behavior, confidentiality, and respect for client dignity at all times.

Ongoing Training and Development

Participate in supervision meetings, team trainings, and skill-building workshops.

Work toward mastery of core ABA competencies (e.g., discrete trial training, natural environment teaching, functional communication training).

Demonstrate reflective practice by applying supervisor feedback in sessions.

Training Required

Students placed at The Behavior Lab will receive a comprehensive training program designed to prepare them for professional practice in play-based ABA therapy. Training will include:

General Employer Orientation (Mandatory)

Overview of The Behavior Lab’s mission, values, and play-based ABA approach.

Policies on confidentiality, professionalism, and client dignity.

Review of company procedures, documentation systems, and safety protocols.

Initial ABA Skills Training

Introduction to ABA principles and strategies (reinforcement, prompting, error correction, functional communication training).

Training on play-based and naturalistic teaching methods.

Role-playing and practice opportunities before working directly with clients.

Job Shadowing and Modeling

Students will observe experienced Behavior Technicians and BCBAs conducting sessions.

Gradual transition from observation to supported participation to independent implementation.

Weekly One-on-One Supervision and Mentorship

Direct feedback and coaching from a supervising BCBA.

Discussion of data collection accuracy, intervention fidelity, and clinical decision-making.

Opportunities for reflection and goal-setting tied to student learning outcomes.

Ongoing Workshops and Skills Training

Training sessions on advanced topics such as behavior intervention plans (BIPs), data platforms (CentralReach, Rethink, Passage Health), and professional communication with caregivers/teachers.

Access to training literature, case studies, and skill assessments to reinforce learning.

Performance Feedback and Competency Checks

Regular fidelity checks to ensure proper implementation of treatment protocols.

Competency-based evaluations on data collection, play-based intervention delivery, and professional collaboration.

Action plans for continued skill growth based on supervisor feedback.

BTs will learn how to effectively implement evidence-based ABA strategies within a play-based framework.

Long-term benefit: Technicians develop transferable clinical skills they can apply in schools, homes, or clinical settings, and it sets a strong foundation for pursuing higher ABA credentials (e.g., RBT, BCBA).
