Program Information Nearly half of Californians live in Health Professional shortage Areas with shortage of primary medical, dental, and mental health services among others. The California Area Health Education Centers Community Health Scholars Program aims to recruit passionate and motivated individuals to learn about community health and interdisciplinary practice in medically underserved communities with the hopes that they will choose to practice in these areas in the future. Upon completion of the program, participants will be able to apply new models of care amongst underserved populations, gain strong connections to professional networks and health service organizations, learn how to conduct a community based health project and learn how a clinical or school based setting responds to the health needs of an underserved community.
