With Open Arms Reproductive Health Care Services: Social Work Placement
2505 Lucas Street, Eureka, 95501
Our mission is to create a safe, loving, and trusting place where women, men, and their families feel at home. All are welcome here: some of our patients speak a language other than English, some don't have insurance, some have little family support, some have mental health issues. We believe everyone deserves access to quality health care. We offer a full spectrum of reproductive and birth health choices: comprehensive birth control, low- and high-risk pregnancy care, breastfeeding support, well-woman care, and sterilization procedures for men and women when their families are complete.
Wiyot Tribe
1000 Wiyot Drive, Loleta, 95551
Wiyot people have lived in the Humboldt Bay region for thousands of years. The North Coast of California is rich with abundant terrestrial, riverine, estuarine, and marine resources.
Wiyot people lived in permanent villages along the waterways which also served as travel and trade routes. Seasonal camps were made on the tribal lands and prairies, and mountainous regions provided berries, acorns, pine nuts, wild game, and basketry materials.
Wiyot people actively managed their resources, burning for open grasslands, cultivating edible bulbs, and following strict hunting and fishing protocols.
Women's Recovery Services: Employment-Based Only
PO Box 1356, Santa Rosa, 95402
Women’s Recovery Services was founded in 1975 to provide residential addiction treatment exclusively for women. We have remained committed to our mission for the last 42 years, focusing on gender-specific services, which research consistently demonstrates helps women succeed in recovery.
Our staff is specially trained and sensitive to women's issues in addiction and recovery, incorporating into treatment services an awareness of domestic violence, trauma and abuse histories, parenting stresses, and other concerns. These issues central to women's lives are addressed along with addiction in all our recovery classes, groups, and individual case work.
An understanding of these issues and the role of post-traumatic stress, depression and anxiety in addiction is integrated into all phases of treatment planning at WRS. In addition to our state license, in 2009 the State of California recognized Women's Recovery Services for its program responsive co-occurring mental and emotional distress as well as addiction, with a certification of Dual-Diagnosis Capability in Addiction Treatment (DDCAT).
At WRS women with infants and young children can participate in addiction treatment without having to leave their children. Mothers attend recovery groups and classes while their children are cared for in our on-site Children's Program, or attend nearby community schools.
Women who are pregnant receive prenatal services -- and the addiction treatment they need to give birth to their babies free of drugs and alcohol. Each year on average, WRS welcomes twelve newborns, born alcohol/drug/nicotine-free, to mothers living here in
new recovery.
