Program Information

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) promotes the wellbeing of HSU students through outreach, consultation, educational and counseling services.

Our counseling services are available to regularly enrolled students from Humboldt State University. There are no per-session charges for these services.  Click to learn about CONFIDENTIALITY of counseling services.

CAPS has two physical locations on campus, our main site is the second floor of the Health and Counseling (SHC) building located to the left of Plaza Circle, a bit north of the HSU Library. CAPS also has a second location across campus at BSS 208.  Starting Fall, 2021 CAPS will resume having a physical presence on campus, though most sessions will continue to be held through Zoom for everyone's safety during the pandemic. Many of our offices are small and have poor ventilation. Please call us before heading to one of our physical locations (707.826.3236).  We will continue to do what we can by phone and Zoom, and will make arrangements for an in-person presence where indicated.  Note that for the SHC location, all who enter the building will go through a Covid screening, including temperature checks.

We have provided many useful resources and tools on this website to promote wellbeing and to help with common life struggles (such as anxiety, depression, dealing with loss, etc.). See the self-help section for a long list of topics, as well as our prezis listed under "counsel from your couch."
