SOCIAL WORK INTERN DESCRIPTION

About Gender Health Center

At GHC, our mission is to provide education, advocacy, mental health, and other health services to underserved and marginalized populations as an act of social justice with a specialization in gender and sexual identities. We focus on supporting transgender, non-binary, and queer communities. GHC is driven by the needs and wants of our community. We started because our community needed affordable and accessible mental health counseling services. Over the last three years, we have been able to expand our services to meet the requests and additional needs of our community. Our services now include mental health counseling for individuals, families and relationships, a free hormone prescription clinic, health advocacy, peer support groups, and assistance in changing name and gender on identity documents. Counseling services are offered on a sliding-fee scale, based on income, and no one is ever turned away for inability to pay—all other services are free. Ninety percent of GHC staff are volunteers and interns. Even the therapists, physicians, clinical supervisors, and attorneys are volunteer and unpaid, making us truly community-based in all the work we do. Every person who works at GHC is here because of our commitment to the mission, vision and values of the organization. We have a grassroots ethic and a social justice heart. We are excited you’re interested in joining the GHC family!
