Organization Description

The Peer Advocates for Wellness (PAW) internship is offered to California State University, East Bay (CSUEB) students as a service-learning opportunity through Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS) and Recreation and Wellness Services (RAW). PAW interns participate in outreach programs, offer peer support, and share resource information on a variety of health and wellness issues.

Program Information

Through this internship, PAW interns will: Gain experience integrating knowledge from various disciplines (art, biological, social, health sciences, etc.) and synthesizing it into campus programs. Increase knowledge of public health and community health education theories/models applied within a university setting. Participate in trainings on health and wellness topics, including but not limited to stress management, nutrition, fitness, sexual health, alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. Learn effective communication skills to work in partnerships, teams, and larger groups. Practice demonstrating ethical and professional behaviors appropriate to the health professions. Attain general knowledge of the professional standards pertinent to the field of health science.

  • HIGH RISK: Health care services - Risk includes but not limited to: falling, needle sticks, medical exposure
  • RISK: Event Set-up - Risk includes but not limited to: Lifting, cuts, bruises, etc.
  • RISK: Physical Recreation - Risk includes but is not limited to: sprains, strains, bruises, gym equipment, falling
  • RISK: Students will be supervised less than 50% of the time or the supervisor will be responsible for overseeing more than 8 people.
  • SITE REQUIREMENT: Site prefers (or has had contact with) students from a particular major or academic program, or with specific coursework completed (If so, please indicate above Special Instructions).
  • SITE REQUIREMENT: Students will be asked to sign a confidentiality waiver.
