Organization Description

For over 48 years, DAYS Long Beach has served low-income, under-served youth and families in the Long Beach area. We provide youth with opportunities to grow academically and personally through educational, leadership and character development programs. Our services allow students to practice skills they have learned in the classroom, increase their desire to learn, and build positive relationships within the community. Through our extensive partnerships and collaborations, DAYS Long Beach is able to offer numerous services that effect the daily lives of the youth and their families. DAYS Long Beach provides programming in the following three areas: Youth Education and Development, Leadership and Academic Success and Parent and Family Support. All of our programs are made accessible through transportation assistance, language support and translation, and by remaining free of charge for all participants.

Program Information

For over 50 years DAYS Long Beach has served underrepresented youth and families in the Long Beach area. DAYS Long Beach is a community-based organization which provides programming in the following three areas: Youth Education and Development, Leadership & Academic Success, Community Engagement. As a trusted resource to the community, we provide youth with opportunities to grow academically and personally through educational, leadership and character development programs. Our services allow students to practice skills they have learned in the classroom, increase their desire to learn, and build positive relationships within the community. For many of the youth we serve, DAYS Long Beach is a lifeline to changing their lives. We are committed to improving the quality of life for children and their families. Many of our programs are made accessible through transportation assistance, language support and translation, and by remaining free of charge for all participants.

DAYSLB provides out-of-school time programming and activities for LBUSD students between the ages of 5-17. Meeting on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons between 4-6pm, the program includes but is not limited to academic support, developing and strengthening critical thinking skills, arts and crafts, and storytelling.

Student interns will report and work directly with Executive Director. Student interns are encouraged to explain what they desire from their community service opportunity and programming will adapt to meet the student’s needs. They will have access to an online timesheet to maintain their hours served. Students are also encouraged to attend local community meetings (offered on Zoom).

If student intern selects in-person programming, they will work directly with DAYSLB staff. If the student interns prefers to offer support off-site, weekly check-in’s will be scheduled. All student interns are encouraged to communicate with the Ex. Director and DAYSLB staff.
