Challenge Alaska

Organization Description

Challenge Alaska improves the lives of people with disabilities, their families and the whole community through adaptive sports, therapeutic recreation and education. Participation in Challenge Alaska's programs helps people break down the barriers that may exist for them in many aspects of life. We accomplish this by building confidence and security, creating an infrastructure for support, increasing mobility, and improving health. Challenge Alaska's mission promotes education, social development and involvement, employment, and the ultimate goal of independence.

Program Information

Service projects are unique to each individual and are decided upon collaboratively between the student and agency. We believe that the student needs to believe strongly in the project and it's potential outcomes as well as having a high value to the agency and its clients. Projects have varied greatly and range from survey development to program design and implementation to creation new types of adaptive equipment for our clients to use and engage in sports and recreation previously unavailable to them.

Health & Safety

We work with a variety of recreation equipment, with an emphasis on adaptive equipment. Furthermore, we spend significant time modifying and adapting the equipment to meed individual needs. While this is not a safety consideration, it is a potential hazard as we work with a variety of tools in close quarters. Other safety
