Organization Description

The Community Youth Center (“CYC”) is a community-based nonprofit agency with an excellent reputation for working with at-risk youth. CYC’s first priority is to serve Asian Pacific Islander (API) youth in San Francisco, but youth of all races, groups and LGBTQ are also served. CYC has been providing expert, practical clinical training for trainees and interns working with teens and their families since the 1980’s.

Program Information

Master's level students will provide individual and family therapy to their own caseload of youth clients in school and community-based settings. They will be certified as a community mental health provider under the San Francisco Department of Public Health and serve highly-diverse population of low income, at-risk youth. PLACEMENT OPENINGS: Traineeships/internships for students in M.F.T., M.S.W., Psy.D. and Clinical/Counseling Psychology programs. Individual and group supervision provided by licensed California psychologist. All positions are voluntary.  Prefer at least 16 - 20 hours per week (negotiable) on flexible days.  Placements may start year round, but most commonly in mid-August of each year.  Bilingual speakers (especially Chinese or Spanish) sought (but not required).

  • HIGH RISK: Students will be working with "behaviorally challenged" populations
  • SITE REQUIREMENT: Site prefers (or has had contact with) students from a particular major or academic program, or with specific coursework completed (If so, please indicate above Special Instructions).
  • SITE REQUIREMENT: Students will be asked to sign a confidentiality waiver.
