Reading Partners Los Angeles

About Us

Few cities have captured the world’s imagination in the way that Los Angeles has. From Hollywood and celebrities to famous architecture and internationally renowned cuisine, Los Angeles is a captivating city. But the reality for too many of Los Angeles’ kids is far from glamorous. One in four children in Los Angeles lives in poverty. With only 47% of third graders reading proficiently, their chances to break out of this cycle of poverty are slim.

Reading Partners wants to change that. We’re working alongside parents, teachers, and school leaders in Los Angeles County to equip all students with the skills they need to succeed. Since our launch in Los Angeles in 2008, we’ve grown from serving three schools to providing our innovative literacy intervention program in ten schools in 2012-13.

In Los Angeles, during the 2011-12 school year:

  • 88% of Reading Partners students accelerated their rate of learning.
  • 72% of Reading Partners students narrowed their achievement gap.
