Ground Education
At Ground Education we passionately believe all children should dig in the dirt, grown their own food, and taste their hard work. Our award-winning outdoor education program provides elementary and middle-school students in the Long Beach Unified School District with hands-on, monthly, garden-based lessons during the school day that encourage collaboration, observation, experimentation, and meaningful connections to nature. We are looking for interns to help support garden lessons in several local elementary schools. If you are interested in education, this is a great opportunity to work in multiple schools with students of varying ages.
On-site days may involve manual labor such as turning compost, watering, weeding, planting, and carrying lesson supplies. Lessons are taught outdoors in a sunny school garden location. All volunteers in Long Beach public schools must have a recent TB test (within the last 4 years).
