World Relief Sacramento

Organization Description

World Relief (WR) is a global humanitarian relief and development organization that stands with the vulnerable and works with church and community partners to tackle the world’s greatest problems. We work with vulnerable people affected by the problems of: disasters; extreme poverty; extreme violence and oppression; and refugees, immigrants, and displaced people. From its inception in 1944, WR has taken grassroots approach to serving the most vulnerable, valuing long-term community building and client empowerment. With over 70 years of experience, WR works in 20 countries. For 40 years, WR has been working in partnership with the U.S. Department of State, along with its extensive network of local church and community partners, to welcome and resettle thousands of refugees each year as they begin their new lives in the US. In 1989, WR established the Sacramento Office. In its 30 years, WR Sacramento (WRS) has welcomed and offered services to over 30,000 refugees and immigrants.

Program Information

WRS is the largest refugee resettlement agency in Sacramento County, resettling over 4,000 refugees in the past three years. The organization provides resettlement assistance to new arrivals, including welcoming refugee families at the airport, providing them with furnished homes, connecting them to healthcare through the County’s Refugee Health Clinic and other providers, and setting them on the path towards community integration. New refugee arrivals are also referred to WRS’ Employment Services and English programs to help clients achieve self-sufficiency and contribute to the local economy. In the past year, WRS’ Immigration Legal Services department has grown significantly, assisting with green card applications, citizenship, and family reunification services. In June 2018, WRS began piloting new initiatives for refugee women and children. The focus of World Relief Sacramento's programming and work is to assist immigrants and refugees on their journey to integration. We believe that integration or the sense of belonging comes through quality programming and making connections with the community already here through building relationships. WRS Departments: - Resettlement - Initial Resettlement Case Management - Employment Based Self-Sufficiency Program - Employment - Education - Vocation ESL - Women's Integration & ESL - Children and Youth - Immigration Legal Services
