East Oakland Youth Development Center (EOYDC)

Organization Description

EOYDC develops the social and leadership capacities of youth and young adults (ages 5 – 24) so that they are prepared for employment, higher education, and leadership opportunities. Our ultimate goal is to ensure young people are prepared to have meaningful, well-paid careers that leverage their talent and passion. EOYDC works towards this overarching goal through a continuum of programming across four areas: Education, Arts, Wellness, and Careers.

Program Information

EOYDC provides a number of different opportunities for students interested in gaining experience working with young people in the areas of education, youth development, college readiness, and health/wellness. Every semester, we have internship and volunteer opportunities for our Youth Leader position in our After School Leadership Academy (ASLA). As a Youth Leader, students will gain mentorship and teaching experience through a part-time internship program. Assignments include assisting with the development and delivery of ASLA activities/curriculum, tutoring and mentoring ASLA participants, fostering a “my brother/sister’s keeper” culture, facilitating a positive classroom environment, and executing day-to-day logistics. Additional paid and/or volunteer opportunities working with middle and high school students may also be available at various points throughout each school year.
