District Office of Rep. Eric Swalwell (CA-15)

Organization Description

As the district office for Rep. Swalwell, we focus on community engagement and federal casework with our constituents. Staff and interns will speak with local groups and residents about the matters affecting them and go to events in the community to relay the Congressman's messages, and, more importantly, hear what actions he and our office can take to enhance the community. Most office work, meanwhile, revolves around our outreach to federal agencies (including Social Security, the IRS, Customs and Immigration Services, and the VA) to make sure constituents are receiving the benefits they have worked hard for and are due. Finally, our office performs basic legislative research to assist the Congressman, his Washington, DC, staff, and community leaders seeking answers on federal policies and legislation.

Program Information

Our interns serve as the first point-of-contact many constituents have with the Congressman's office, allowing them to hone their skills while greeting and directing visitors to the proper staff members. They will also aid in a variety of administrative functions, such as sorting and filing, with the potential to learn more about programs such as Excel and Word. Opportunities also arise when interns can develop their research and writing skills to prepare memos and papers for the Congressman and staff members, which complement the tenure-long legislative proposal research project requested of each intern.
