Organization Description

Outreach Concern is a non-profit 501(c)(3) counseling agency created to help students and their parents eliminate the barriers that impact their performance in the classroom. More than a third of today's students in grades K through 12 face issues that can adversely affect their ability to learn. Problems such as child abuse, sexual abuse, drugs, bullying, and parent/child conflict often manifest as classroom disruptions, poor attention, low grades and even self-destructive behavior. Outreach Concern is a school-based counseling agency that works with students on a confidential, one-on-one basis to help them overcome obstacles that impact classroom performance. We have a proven track record of making a significant difference in the lives of students and their families for more than 25 years. Based on a recent 10-year accountability study, Outreach Concern has demonstrated an overall 87% performance increase focused on academic, behavioral, emotional and social issues that impact student success.

Program Information

As an Outreach Concern intern-counselor, you will handle diverse caseloads interacting with students, teachers and parents in a school setting. You may be assigned to work with students in an elementary, middle or high school where you will encounter a wide range of emotional, social or behavioral issues. Your goal is to help students overcome these issues so they can focus on learning and achieving their personal success both in and outside the classroom. Prior interns report that real-world fieldwork is the most valuable way to prepare for a professional career.
