Organization Description

The Probation Officer Intern will learn some of the many tasks associated with a Probation Officer position. Under close supervision, the intern may assist in investigating and supervising cases involving adult or juvenile offenders coupled with making rehabilitation referrals as directed by the Superior Court. The intern may also be invited to observe the Superior Court during various Hearings for new offenses and/or violations of probation. The intern may also attend meetings that promote collaboration among many government, Superior Court, Law Enforcement, non-profit, and advocacy agencies.

Program Information

Under the direction of a Deputy Probation Officer III or higher position, duties may include but are not limited to: • Interviews juvenile and/or adult offenders, their families and interested parties to determine the nature of their difficulties; • Conducts investigations and reports on findings; • Recommends to the Court plans for the adjustment of offenders and interprets the plan to the probationer, his/her family, and interested parties; • Conducts field visits to monitor compliance with Court orders and probation conditions; • Maintains contact with the probationer to assist him/her in making a satisfactory social adjustment; • Appears in court while cases are under consideration and makes recommendations as to the disposition; • Cooperates with staff from other agencies on cases of mutual interest; • Confers with supervisors and other staff members on general casework techniques and specific case situations; • Assists in preparing and maintaining case records and reports; • Performs related
