Program Information The Sutter County Victim Services Progam provides advocacy to victims of crime as they go through the criminal justice system. The office assists victims and families apply for reimbursement for medical, counseling, and funeral/burial bills; provides appropriate referrals; and assists with emergency needs of victims. Each year the office assists hundreds of crime victims and processes thousands of dollars in compensation claims.
Victim Advocates provide direct services to the victims. Some of the mandated services that advocates provide are crisis intervention, claims preparation assistance, and resource and referral information. Advocates are also available to provide orientation to the criminal justice system, court escort and support, and follow up counseling.
Student interns will have the opportunity to:
-Assist victims and witnesses of crimes in a variety of settings (including crime scenes, home visits, courtroom, and other community locations)
-Access services and resources related to their needs
-Become familiar with the criminal justice system and will advocate for victim's rights
-Participate in community outreach efforts
-Provide direct case management, information/referral, and counseling for victims/witnesses
