Program Information At Raising Shasta, we dedicate ourselves to leading the fight against child abuse in Shasta County by fostering robust public and private partnerships. We are deeply committed to enhancing support for families and communities, providing essential education, and advancing professional development focused on preventing child abuse and neglect.
Our organization champions dynamic youth engagement through diverse programs such as teen centers, Camp HOPE – Shasta, and comprehensive life skills training. These initiatives are designed to empower young individuals with the tools they need to succeed and thrive.
We are proactive in advocating for the expansion and improvement of services related to child abuse prevention and treatment. By collaborating with Child Abuse Prevention Councils at local, regional, state, and national levels, we strive to unify efforts and magnify our impact, ensuring every child and family in our community has the support they need to build a hopeful and resilient future.
At Raising Shasta, BSW students will gain valuable hands-on experience that prepares them for entry-level professional social work practice. During their practicum, students will have the opportunity to assist with case managment, family engagement, and youth services in a real-world, trauma-informed setting. They will work closely with our experienced Parent Partners and staff to learn how to assess needs, build rapport with clients, and support families in accessing essential resources such as housing, food, childcare, and behavioral health services.

Students will develop foundational skills in client intake, documentation, mandated reporting, and ethical decision making. They will also learn how to collaborate with community partners, participate in multi-disciplinary teams, and apply culturally responsive practices in their work. Opportunities to assist with parenting education classes, youth programming at our Teen Centers, and community outreach events will help students build confidence in group facilitation and program coordination.
Throughout the practicum, students will receive supervision, feedback, and professional development support to strengthen their understanding of social work values, the importance of advocacy, and the practical tools needed for effective generalist practice.
A good fit for our agency is someone who’s flexible, open to learning, and willing to jump in and try new things. Our days can be a mix of structured and unstructured, so adaptability is key. We value lifelong learning, our whole team believes there’s always more to be taught, no matter your experience level. It’s completely okay not to know everything; what matters most is showing up with compassion, curiosity, and a willingness to ask questions and grow.
