Program Information

A unique opportunity for MSW Students to be exposed to and acquire a variety of mental health skill set working in a school based program. Students will learn Clinical Evaluation, Assessment, Therapeutic intervention, consultation and group training skills in a family centered-school based program working with low-income children ages 3-5 years old, their families and school professionals. 

Stipend Offered

Under the supervision of a Licensed Mental Health Clinician, Interns will be trained on and subsequently obtain the following skillset:
  DSM-5 Clinical Diagnostic Skills, develop diagnostic formulation, identify differential diagnosis
  Clinical Evaluation inclusive of Mini and Full Mental Status Exams
  Bio-Psycho-Social Assessment
  Clinical Classroom Observation for identified social / emotional problems
  Teacher and Parent consultation regarding atypical behavior
  Utilizing evidence based practice (EBP) and Evidence Based Therapy (EBP)
  Conduct testing utilizing reliable tools to identify social emotional deficits.
  Follow-up on classroom referrals including conducting Screening, Assessments and Evaluation
utilizing a standardized assessment tool for children with atypical behavior.
  Development of Intervention Plan and Clinical report (HIPPAA compliant),
  Composing Progress Notes, SOAP , SOAPIER, DAP , BIO, PIE, etc...
  Consult with Parents, Teachers and Community Partners regarding interventions
  Brief Therapy / Solution Focused Counseling (adults), Play and Art therapy (children).
  Assists in providing training that includes such topics: child development; discipline; parenting;
observations and screening techniques; depression, stress management.
  Make CPS referrals, and refer to other community partner as necessary
  Provide crises intervention as needed.
  Participates in a multi-disciplinary team including being a part of an IEP or Child Study
  DSM-5 Diagnosis to include Autism Spectrum, Childhood Disintegrative Disorder, Oppositional
Defiant, Depressive Disorders, Substance Induced mood, PTSD, Depressive, Parent-Child Relationship, ADHD, Tourettes, Communication Disorders, Learning Disorder, Fetal Alcohol and Coaxial codes.

REQUIREMENTS:
  MSW Students (First year or Second year)
  Experience working with low income families and young children
  DOJ Fingerprint clearance
  TB Test
  Valid California Drivers License and Proof of Insurance
  Computer and Internet access (for remote access to secure website portal).

HOURS:
  Based on Student Internship Requirement (16 hours first year, 24 hours second year)
  School hours 8:00 Am to 5Pm, however hours will be flexible based on need
  Some opportunity for telecommute, remote _ cyber access using virtual private network.

LOCATION:
  School Sites located at North and South Butte County
  School Sites located at Yuba and Sutter County
