Program Information First year MSW Students: will learn to perform a variety of social services in an outpatient setting servicing children and adults from various cultures using a Recovery model of care. Students will learn skills such as crisis intervention, case management, advocacy, and community linkage. Students will learn to perform assessments, mental status exams, formulate cases, write progress notes and treatment plans, and begin developing diagnostic skills using the DSMIV-TR (DSM 5) criteria. Students will learn to facilitate groups and help clients build skills in order to better cope with life stressors and various mental health issues. Students will be given case assignments to oversee and manage during the school year. Opportunities exist for participation in alcohol and drug prevention programs with youth and/or adults and/or school based services.
Second year MSW students: will be given case assignments and learn the beginning, middle and end phases of mental health therapy using various treatment modalities. Students will learn skills such as crisis intervention, case management, advocacy and community linkage. Students will learn to perform assessments and mental status exams, formulate cases, write progress notes and treatment plans, and develop diagnostic skills using the DSMIV-TR (DSM 5) criteria. Students have the opportunity to work with children and families and/or adults in individual, family and group settings. Opportunities exist to participate in alcohol and drug programs and school based clinical services.
