Program Information This placement is for MSW stuents.
Gary Bess Associates (GBA) provides consultation services for health and human services agencies with regard to grant writing, program evaluation, needs assessment, data analytics and GIS mapping, strategic planning, and non-profit management. GBA's specialty is with Federally Qualified Health Centers, Native American programs, and community-based participatory research.
Internship Overview:
-Read agency's policy/procedure manual.
-Discuss agency's mission and goals with GBA Principal and/or Supervisor.
-Review agency website.
-Review the scope of services offered by GBA.
-Review individual agencies served by GBA.
-Study and apply the NASW Code of Ethics during work.
-Identify any internal and ethical dilemmas and conflicts.
-Identify my personal biases, values, attitudes and feelings toward other and myself and recognize how that may affect the working relationship.
-Student will attend meetings and conferences with supervisor and/or other GBA staff.
-Correspond with clients (e.g., agencies and programs) by email and telephone.
-Consult and coordinate with members of community-based organizations.
-Identify the various ethnic and racial backgrounds of the clients with which GBA works.
-Recognize and understand cultural differences.
-Seek information and education that is culturally competent when a personal knowledge deficit is identified.
-Become familiar with SPSS program by taking the SPSS tutorial and through discussion with GBA staff familiar with program.
-Review SPSS databases from previous clients.
-Create code books and enter variables into SPSS files.
-Enter data into SPSS files.
-Student will organize and evaluate qualitative and quantitative data.
-Student will read sample quantitative and qualitative reports as written by GBA.
-Student will read and review sample grant proposals and evaluate reports to become familiar with the writing style of macro work within GBA.
-Student will prepare reports and proposals as requested.
-Student will accept and learn from constructive criticism and readily accept the guidance of the supervisor.
-Student will proofread the work of others in the Agency.
Agency Requirement(s):
Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle -- some travel involved.
