Home & Heart is a Home Sharing program that connects older adults who have an extra room and need assistance to successfully age in place (Home Providers), with community members seeking affordable housing (Home Seekers).
Program Information Home & Heart offers a $500/semester stipend to BSW interns completing 16 hours and a $1000/semester stipend to MSW interns completing 24 hours.
Home & Heart is a small, grassroots organization that started as an MSW internship project. This internship offers opportunities for students to engage in client support, case management, outreach, event planning and implementation, grassroots fundraising, grant writing. Interns doing case management will work with older adults who are typically our home providers, and community members who are home seekers, and will take them through the on-boarding process for the homesharing program. This includes an initial evaluation of applications, an in-depth interview/assessment, and for home providers a housing evaluation of the site. Interns interested in more macro work can work with Director on grant writing, program development and board development.
Interns must be self-starters who can work effectively without continual supervision. As a small organization, all individuals with the program must work independently, be able to identify when they need help, and feel confident reaching out to ask questions and get needed support. We provide weekly team meetings for support and work planning. Flexibility is important as is the ability to work with older adults, students, and Camp Fire/disaster survivors who are experiencing trauma.
We greatly appreciate our interns and work closely with you to build skills, knowledge and confidence in the field, helping you find opportunities to explore your interests while also working within the needs of the organization.
