Organization Description

The Health and Human Services Agency offers an array of services, from food assistance and employment training, to counseling and immunizations. Our vision is for every person to enjoy a safe, healthy and productive life.

Program Information

Is committed to helping seniors (65 and older) and dependent adults (ages 18-64) live in a safe environment free from abuse and exploitation. APS investigates, intervenes and provides services to those who are unable to protect their own interests or to care for themselves. Social workers investigate allegations of abuse, neglect, exploitation and abandonment, and also help provide information and referrals for housing, food, clothing and case management.

Shasta County Adult Services is comprised of 4 departments: Public Guardian (conserves adults who cannot properly provide for their own personal and/or financial needs alone), Adult Protective Services (helps seniors and dependent adults live in a safe environment free from abuse and exploitation), In-Home Supportive Services (helps individuals of all ages remain safely in their own homes with ADL assistance), and Public Authority (caregiver registry for IHSS).  The student intern would do some or all of the following: actively manages a client caseload in homes and/or facilities, implements and conducts group and community projects, conducts program evaluations, attends MDT meetings, attends trainings, has APS phone duty, and initiates policy research at state level with regard to funding of adult services programs.
