Program Information

The Jesus Center offers a variety of programs using a trauma-informed model with a strength-based approach for unhoused individuals in Butte County.   We offer a shelter for men and a shelter for women in our newly built facility.  Each person receiving services in the shelter will receive a full intake assessment, an introduction to the Pathways Program which includes life skill classes, case management, optional vocational training, and a workbook.

The Jesus Center will be begin building the Renewal Center in the Spring of 2022.  The Renewal Center will offer an emergency shelter for families, couples, individuals, and a pet friendly area.  Other service providers will participate in collaboratively.

Additionally, the Jesus Center offers seven transitional homes which may house either single men, women, women with children, women who are pregnant, and/or elderly adults.

Learning opportunities

Learning opportunities for social work interns may include intakes, assessments, case management, with an understanding about micro, mezzo, and macro practice.  Internships with the Jesus Center includes interactions with participants and the ability to learn about human behavior.  In addition, interns will learn about critical debriefing, conflict resolution, building a rapport, engagement, and interventions.  Supervision will also include discussion about the Social Work Code of Ethics, along with practicing and establishing boundaries.

The student intern should have critical thinking skills, be a self-starter in building rapport with participants, be flexible, adaptable, and a willingness to learn. Addtionally, interns should be respectful, non-biased, able to work in a chaotic environment, understand the importance of dignity and worth of each individual, able to work in a diverse environment, and willing to help complete tasks with or for staff and/or participants. Good communication skills also a plus.
