Blue Oak Charter School

Organization Description

Blue Oak Charter School is a free public Waldorf-inspired charter school serving elementary students in grades K – 8.

Program Information

The school social work intern at Blue Oak will have opportunities to both observe and facilitate individual and group counseling sessions, create and implement social emotional learning material with the School Social Worker/Counselor, provide crisis mental health interventions, behavioral interventions in the classroom, and more. They will complete clinical documentation including assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes. There may also be opportunities to connect with the wider school culture by attending staff meetings, SARB or other disciplinary meetings and consultations with teachers.

The ideal student intern will be ready to jump in and learn as the internship unfolds. Some days may be more structured than others and it is important that the student will be able to accomplish independent tasks on the less structured days. The ideal student will also be someone who is interested in alternative educational settings and is eager to learn!

Health & Safety

While rare, the student intern may be exposed to aggressive verbal/physical behavior from the students if they are experiencing a crisis mental health episode. However, it is very unlikely that the student would be alone in such a situation.
