Program Intern At — Community Legal Services in East Palo Alto
CLSEPA’s immigration program represents immigrants in a variety of affirmative and defensive proceedings. We represent victims of crime in applications for U visas, and survivors of domestic violence in VAWA self-petitions. We also respond to certain urgent requests for help when immigrants have ICE holds or are detained, and have a robust removal defense practice. We also engage in additional advocacy for youth, ranging from mass presentations at schools and other locations, to individual case representation.
CLSEPA’s immigration program aims to engage Law students both new to immigration and those able to work on slightly more advanced projects (including bilingual students). Our attorneys work on a range of cases and advocacy projects, from affirmative applications for survivors of violent crimes, to removal defense cases for both adults and juveniles, to public speaking opportunities on general or tailored ‘Know Your Rights’ information presentations.
Interns receive ongoing training in various subjects relating to immigration. The format of the training can range from recorded webinars/trainings to staff led trainings in real time. The length of those trainings is also varied based on type but average 1-1.5 hours. We provide general overview trainings to start and then they are supplemented by more specific trainings as needed to complete different assignments.
