Step Up Tutoring

Organization Description

Step Up Tutoring’s mission is to innovate and scale free online tutoring for families who cannot afford private tutoring. Amidst the uncertainty and isolation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, our volunteer tutors provide mentorship and emotional support for students. Our goal is to increase engagement, improve academic performance, and strengthen students’ social safety net. We currently are supporting over 800 LAUSD students from Title I schools!

Program Information

Step Up Tutoring provides free one on one online tutoring and mentorship to underserved elementary school students in grades 3rd - 6th. Our goal is to help students who have fallen behind catch up to grade level and to build confidence. We are tutoring in math and English and provide all of the resources and training needed for free. We are working to close the education gap one child at a time through this program.

All students, regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender, gender identity, and sexual orientation, are open and welcome to participate.

None. All opportunities are fully remote.

Students being tutored may have a disability and are under 18 as they are in 2nd - 6th grade.

This opportunity is completely REMOTE

We have a team of people dedicated to the volunteer experience. Staff members will join sessions with tutors, have office hours and are always available to reach out to if issues come up or for questions and guidance.
