Recreation Therapy InternAt — Redwood Place
Redwood Place is a 15 bed MHRC that serves clients with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges. Treatment is based on the belief that all people have the potential to rehabilitate and make choices that support their hopes and dreams, regardless of their history. Our innovative clinical approach — the Recovery-Centered Clinical System (RCCS) — is a comprehensive, holistic and richly personal approach to recovery. Our model also incorporates evidence-based practices such as Cognitive and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, the strengths model, harm reduction, and motivational interviewing.
•Will be a lead and co-lead groups with a greater amount of independence including but not limited to: Groups with Recreation/Rehab Therapist, Expressive Arts Therapists, Rehab Activity Leaders, Peer counselors.
• Will screen, assess, observe and evaluate and document findings at the following intervals: Initially, Monthly and quarterly.
• Will participate in interdisciplinary recovery conferences.
• Will be exposed to and participate in the recovery movement in the community.
• Will attend all trainings and in-services that are offered and appropriate.
• Will prepare and execute a cultural event.
• Will prepare and execute a large leisure/recreation event.
• Develop a new recovery Group of at least five sessions, including writing a protocol and evaluation procedure.
• Will use 1:1 interventions to ascertain clients hopes and dreams
• Will maintain a healing culture in groups and other interventions
• Will promote social inclusion be decreasing stigma and discrimination in all groups and other interventions.
• Will maintain professional boundaries.
Interns will be provided 1:1 training by the Supervisor of agency protocols, policies and job responsibilities. Intern
Intern will not engage in any crisis intervention and will be taught protocol incase of challenging situations.
