Program Information Social work practicum students will learn about the agency's policies and procedures, engage with clients, strengthen interviewing skills, coordinate between FDRC and other organizations, engage and organize community mental health events, coordinate care for clients accessing both mental health medical appointments and medical health, facilitating self-help groups using coping tools, act in the role of advocate, complete agency documentation, grant search and grant writing, apply theories of personality, gain experience working with diverse populations including low income and homeless populations in Shasta County. Practicum students will gain experience working for individuals who are exposed to ACEs and work with survivors of domestic violence. Students will complete and interpret mental health assessments.
Practicum students must be willing to work with diverse populations in various socioeconomic levels, be willing to work with individuals in substance use recovery, hold the highest level of ethical and legal values, be willing to work within the agencies policies and procedures, explore principal agency and be willing to identify need for change and promote change to improve the workforce. Arrive on time, meet weekly with LCSW and be willing to explore federal, state, and local policies. Willing to work with clients providing resources.
