Organization Description

FREED’s mission is to promote independence and self-determination for people with disabilities through person-driven services, collaborative community partnerships and education, and leadership that advocates for fully inclusive communities.

FREED’s vision is that people with disabilities enjoy a fully accessible community strengthened by diversity and unified by a culture of limitless possibility.

FREED has a variety of programs centering around issues that arise with aging and disabilities.  We work with you and your family to figure out what you need, know your choices and get connected.

Program Information

The student intern will have the opportunity to becomew well versed in the philosophy and practice of independent living and consumer directed services. FREED has a variety of programs and services that may be of interest to students including independent living skills training, person centered options counseling, short term services coordination, resource navigation, information and referral, housing and homeless services, hospital and nursing home transitions and diversions, assistive technology and device lending, home modifications, disaster and emergency preparedness, friendly visitor, phone reassurance programs.

Students should be organized, self directed, and able to work to deadlines for paperwork completion and case notes/filing. Our offices are fast paced environments with frequent need to change and re-prioritize tasks. Flexibility, collaboration and creative problem solving will be key.

Health & Safety

Our offices are scent free environments, and COVID-19 mitigation procedures are strictly followed. Students should expect to encounter colleagues and consumers with a variety of disabilities. As such, accessibility of office space and communications should be prioritized at all times.
