The New Children's Museum is an arts-based children's museum focused on early learning through exposure to art and play. Our mission is to stimulate imagination and creativity through exposure to contemporary art.

Program Information

Our mission: The New Children’s Museum is a new model of children’s museum whose mission is to stimulate imagination, creativity and critical thinking in children and families through inventive and engaging experiences with contemporary art.

Our vision:  To address a critical need in our society and become a leader in engaging children through contemporary art in order to develop the skills needed for the 21st century.

Our history: The Museum opened in La Jolla in 1983 as The Children’s Museum of San Diego. It moved in 1993 to a downtown warehouse to become the Children’s Museum/Museo de los Niños. The Museum reopened in 2008 as The New Children’s Museum – with the word “new” signifying our focus on commissioning contemporary artists to create immersive art installations for children to explore.

Health & Safety

This opportunity is in our 2,000 square foot Del Mar facility (not the downtown facility).

Currently we require ALL of our employees/volunteers to be vaccinated OR sign a waiver for religious or health reasons. If they are not vaccinated, they must take and provide the results of a negative COVID test prior to coming to work/volunteer. We also require all staff, volunteers and visitors to wears masks when inside our space.
