Community Dialogue FacilitatorAt — Aquatic Park School
Community engaged research is founded upon collaborative effort. These efforts encompass both the collection of data and researching the data in conjunction with the community's efforts. Every aspect of this CBRP exists upon identifying the community's expressed criteria as well as analyzing these criteria collectively and disseminating plausible opportunities for remedy. By creating this PACT group and this CBRP I am hopeful that we will see necessary changes in individuals' physical and mental health and an increased community driven effort. I plan on devoting 25-30 hours of unpaid time to this endeavor that will begin as soon as I am given a GO from CSUEB. This should last most likely 2+ months. I plan on working on this from 8:00 - 11:00 Monday - Friday. Meetings will be held via zoom every two weeks from 7:00 - 9:00pm date TBD. My responsibilities will include tech support, note taker, facilitator and time keeper in these meetings, as well as general organizer and presenter of material. The recipients of service will be 20+ APS staff members and families, location is all online. Learning objectives will consist of acquiring more insight regarding CBRP, PER’s and PAR’s. I hope to learn more about knowledge production both local and professional. I'm very interested to see how these CBRP’s can allow the community to gain confidence and seek a level of co learning while gaining confidence in suggesting challenges while seeking collaborative effort for change. In essence I'm looking to learn more about zones of proximal development in relation to the adult mind. By using comparative analysis derived from these PACT discussion groups what shared level of emotional response or regulatory means of comfort can arise from these discussions and be shared knowledge.
The concept of Reggio Emilia education grew from the ashes of post WWII Italy. As Italy was rebuilding infrastructure and societal framework the province of Reggio Emilia created and implemented a community based progressive social constructionist educational theory. The Reggio approach has since reached countless international educational communities. Fostering a pedagogical benchmark for Reggio inspired educational theory. I started working at a Reggio inspired preschool (Aquatic Park School) three years ago. I was only on site for 18 months due to COVID19. Then I created an offsite program for 8 children, and my 3 year old daughter. Now I find myself reentering back onsight at APS and I am new to the community and am witnessing a communal challenge. Community involvement has been greatly affected by COVID. There is a genuine asset of wealth in both former APS teachers and current APS teachers who are all now incoming parents. Sadly due to COVID restrictions these alumni teachers are not allowed inside the school or classrooms creating a void in Reggio inspired pedagogy. Both groups share a commonality of navigating these COVID restrictions as well as the stresses of being new parents. There is a genuine need to re-establish community. My plan is to form a discussion group called PACT (Past Alumni and Current Teachers). This will help initiate opportunities to construct community dialogue fostering social opportunities for the community to develop deeper relationships coming out of this scarcity of socialization due to the pandemic. This opportunity will connect to my course work by directly witnessing how a CBRP is created and implemented. As Reggio was rebuilt from the post WWII ashes APS is rebuilding from this COVID pandemic and PACT will help foster community.
