Service Learning OpportunitiesAt — Camarillo Health Care District
Depending on which department the student will be placed with, they could be making a positive impact on social isolation by working our Senior Support Line (a telephonic wellness check program designed for isolated and/or lonely older adults in Ventura County - we have a roster of clients we call each day (M-F)). Or there could be placement where the student is making a positive impact on food insecurity and social isolation by assisting in the Home Delivered Meal program (delivery of bundle meals/food bags to home-bound older adults in Camarillo). This includes possibly assisting with the preparation of meal bags (no cooking is required), performing telephonic assessments among other tasks and duties.
The health impacts of social isolation and food insecurity on the aging population, and how that is related to their (the older adults) overall health. Students will understand and gain knowledge in additional resources in Camarillo and the County to assist home-bound older adults in maximizing their wellbeing. Students will understand how (some) grant funded programs work, and what is required from the organization by the grantor.
Training provided will be: COVID-19 safety protocols; HIPAA; Security Awareness; Specific Program training and orientation (either Senior Support Line specific or Senior Nutrition Program specific); how to handle emergencies (fire drills, etc.) and who to report to; orientation to office setting, how to use items in the office, how to use the phone, etc.; who to contact if out sick/running late; Camarillo Health Care District services overview; Departmental overview and introduction; etc.
We generally serve the older adult population. This population tends to be a tad slower, but is a great population to work with.
