Program Information Children's Legacy Center offers a supportive and comprehensive learning environment for students. This can include but it not limited to one on one counseling sessions with adolescents, elementary school aged and preschool aged children. Students will be providing individual therapy, group therapy, support for families and trafficked and at risk children. Students will be learning and implementing evidence based interventions with a core focus around trauma informed care. This may include: Play Therapy, TF-CBT, EMDR, NMT, Sand Tray Therapy. There is also child advocacy, foster family agency and short term residential treatment (for commercially sexually exploited youth).
Family Advocacy Interns (BSW/MSW) will learn:
- Core case management and documentation skills
- Trauma-informed victim advocacy services
- Parental support, psychoeducation around trauma and safety planning
- Multidisciplinary practice and collaboration across systems
- Dependency and criminal court/investigation process
- Clinical social work skills in crisis intervention and de-escalation
- How to screen for and identify needs and strengths within family systems
Interns will have the opportunity to:
- Carry a caseload of advocacy clients
- Work collaboratively with community partnerss, including LE, DA's, CVAC, Behavioral Health, Children's Services, etc.
- Be an active member of a treatment team and attend team meetings
- Participate in agency sponsored trainings (e.g. trauma-informed services, victim advocacy, MI, TBRI, suicide prevention, crisis intervention, mandated reporting, etc.)
- Shadow in other programs within the CLC to broaden experience
- Provide services free of charge to all families
Behavioral Health Interns (MSW only) will shadow and train in these treatment modalities:
- Trauma-focused CBT
- Family and group therapy
- Stress & Anger Management Training
- Parent Education
- Play and Sand Tray Therapies
- Parent Child Attachment Therapy
- Emotional Regulation Training
- Equine Assisted Therapy
- Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics
- Interns will receive supervision from LCSW supervisors
- Have the opportunity to assist in crisis intervention
- View forensic interviews
- Receive a stipend and mileage reimbursement
- Learn evidence-based trauma treatments
- Offers flexible hours, day, evening, weekend
The ideal student will have a willingness to learn, to ask questions, and a passion for the work that the Children's Legacy Center stands for. The schedule will be structured yet flexible with days/times that may vary depending upon client's needs. The student intern should have the ability to manage their own emotions regarding complex trauma histories.
This placement requires a background check and drug screening.
